How to Use Wax Melts: Tea Light vs Electric Wax Burners
If you’re new to wax melts — or simply wondering whether you’re using yours in the best way — you might be asking: Should I use a tea light burner or an electric wax warmer?
We’re often asked about the difference, so here’s our honest guide to using wax melts at home and choosing the right wax melt burner for your space.
⸻
Tea Light Wax Burners: Stronger, Instant Scent Throw
A traditional tea light wax burner is one of the most popular ways to use soy wax melts. Because the flame heats the dish quickly, this method usually produces the strongest and most immediate scent throw.
If you love walking into a room and instantly noticing your fragrance, a tea light burner is ideal for living rooms, kitchens and larger spaces.
Tips for Using Wax Melts with a Tea Light Burner:
• Always use the tea light size recommended by the burner manufacturer.
• 3 or 4 hour tea lights are usually best for standard wax melt burners.
• The distance between the flame and the dish affects how strong the fragrance becomes.
• Never use a larger tea light than recommended.
When used correctly, this method gives a powerful fragrance experience from your wax melts.
⸻
Electric Wax Melters: Flame-Free and Long-Lasting
If you’d prefer a flame-free option, an electric wax melter (sometimes called an electric wax warmer) is a lovely alternative.
These burners use either a warming bulb or heated plate to gently melt the wax. Because they don’t reach the same temperature as tea light burners, the scent throw is slightly softer — but your soy wax melts will last longer.
Electric wax warmers are ideal for:
• Bedrooms
• Homes with pets or young children
• Anyone who prefers not to use an open flame
Many designs also include a soft light that adds a cosy ambience, and some feature removable silicone dishes for easy wax removal.

Which Wax Melt Burner Is Best?
There isn’t one “best” way to melt wax — it depends on the fragrance strength you prefer and the room you’re scenting.
• For a stronger, quicker scent throw → choose a tea light burner.
• For a softer, longer-lasting fragrance → choose an electric wax melter.
